Judge Cadwalader later became a United States District Court judge for the Eastern Region of Pennsylvania, appointed by his good friend President James Buchanan. In 1913, the Cadwalader House was combined with the adjacent Shippen-Wistar House and restored by architects Stewardson and Page, becoming the home of the Mutual Assurance Company.
