A short walk down the hill is a quiet woodland pond surrounded by perennial flowers that attracts wildlife from hummingbirds to big black bears.The wide front porch opens to soaring great room with log walls, 20-foot ceilings, and a fieldstone fireplace with raised hearth and a massive wood mantle. It segues to a dining area and an efficient galley kitchen. Out the back door, there is a two-level covered porch with breathtaking western views of fields, forest and the Shenandoah National Park. Behind a balcony above the great room, the master suite occupies the upper level. The bedroom has a cathedral ceiling lit by a skylight. The lower level includes two guest bedrooms and a full bath. Both bedrooms open to the private lower level porch which has outstanding views and access to the lower lawn areas. The Writer's Cabin is about six miles from the village of Sperryville. Recently recognized as the best small town in Virginia, Sperryville is alive with two breweries, a distillery, yoga studio, fitness center, restaurants and interesting shopping. Rappahannock and surrounding counties offer endless recreational possibilities. Shenandoah National Park and Old Rag Mountain are nearby. The park is home to scenic Skyline Drive with its overlooks, as well as many miles of trails. There are wineries and breweries, great restaurants and cafes, antique stores, farms and orchards, and much more. Looking for cultural activities?
